Abstract: In order to explore the impact of sand on spill fire accident, the experimental platform of spill fire was designed and constructed, and the sand size effect and leakage rate on the burning characteristics of spill fire was studied. The results showed that the burning phase characteristics of spill fire of different sand size were obvious;when the sand particle size is crude, the burning process has five stages: spreading, shrinking, steady, maintenance, and extinguishing; while the sand particle size is fine, there is no shrinking phase. The steady burning area increase with the increase of the sand size. The steady burning rate decreased with the increase of sand size. The average steady line burning rate of spill fire at different leakage rates was about 0.122 mm/s.
